The Natural Approach was developed from a comprehension-based approach, that states learning should be relaxed and much communication should take place (Brown & Lee, 2015). It claims language learning for additional languages occurs the same way for natural language acquisition
Key Characteristics of the Natural Approach Method:
-Everyday communication is the goal, for example conversations, shopping, and listening to the radio.
-Teachers role is to provide support for learners to understand language that is just beyond their level, comprehensible input.
-Language learners are not pressured to speak until they feel ready to.
-Teacher provides interesting and engaging activities for students in the classroom such as commands, games, skits, and small-group work.
-Beginning students focus on reading and listening comprehension.
-Grammar is not the focus.
